BS jobs tweets

Putting them together to point at something (last linked thread)

In hindsight, I do not think that Medium is the best approach for grouping tweets, or references for the matter, for embedded easier access.

However, it works, it is not too bad, and it allows the two columns format. That is good enough for the experiment.

I was tempted to use WordPress instead, but it is not working for me today. There are not many platforms that will automatically embed tweets for you. All in all, Medium is the least bad option. So here is this.

Bullshit jobs are (or were) one of my favorite topics in twitter for a while, and at some point I had collected a few mentions to the topic (first tweet), which cannot be embedded in a single tweet (it would not look great anyway). A Medium post is a way to do that, and a cumbersome one at that. The editor really struggles with so many tweets together, or is it my browser? Nonetheless, it is a convenient one that “just works”. So much for a “proof of technology”.

About the topic, I do not have much to add these days. I have realized that bullshit jobs are in fact good if the unfortunate workers of such jobs are able to find a way to release their time, as in some cases a minimum number of hours per day may suffice to fulfill the obligations of these jobs.

If bullshit jobs instead consume the time and therefore potential productivity of the corresponding workers, then there is no luck, they are one of the greatest forces destroying human potential, which implies the economy, the future, and worst of all: human well-being.

Nowadays, with remote work becoming more usual, releasing your time and your potential for “doing things that matter” is perhaps easier than ever before. It is still not without challenges, though.

Therefore, some guidelines and advice about how to stay sane and productive, perhaps even work on some activities on the side for profit or meaning could be beneficial. If you are interested, let me know. BTW: congratulations for reading so far this wall of text that I am including mainly as a filler, I really appreciate your attention and interest.

In this sense, being able to build solutions, and solve problems, anonymously (or pseudo-anonymously, not to be confused with “pseudonymously”) for instance in the blockchain, is a great tool to unlock this potential for creation.

Certainly, the blockchain is not without problems, and there may be better alternatives. In fact, the best option would be switching jobs to something that matters, or entrepreneurship, if you feel that it is something you could do and would like to do (please bear in mind that it is less good than “depicted in the photo”).

Apologies for the rambling filler. I will write about all these topics in better ways in my “better” newsletter/blog: Sigmoid. Until we “meet again”: good luck with your endeavors, and enjoy the ride, it is too short to do anything else.

I write to have links to point at when discussing something (DRY). Topics around computers, AI, and cybernetics, i.e. anything.
